Completing the square meets a lead coefficient: divide it out first and the machine runs as before.

  2. Draw the arcs first, then write the angle equation.

  1. Solve 2x2 + 8x + 6 = 0.
  2. Divide by 2: x2 + 4x + 3 = 0.
  3. Factor: (x + 3)(x + 1) = 0, so x = -3 or x = -1.
