Common Factors and Greatest Common Factor (GCF) Common Factors are factors that two or more numbers have in common. The greatest common factor (GCF) is the largest factor two or more numbers have in common. To find the GCF: • List all factors of each number • Circle the common factors • The largest one is the GCF

Least Common Multiples A multiple of a number is the product of that number multiplied by a whole number. Common multiples are multiples shared by two or more numbers. The least common multiple (LCM) is the smallest multiple shared by 2 or more numbers. You will often need the LCM to find common denominators when adding or subtracting fractions.

Introduction to Fractions A fraction represents a part of a whole. The numerator is the top number and tells how many equal parts are used. The denominator is the bottom number and tells the total number of equal parts the whole is divided into. nnnnnnnnn ddddddddddd Remainders as Fractions When dividing, the remainder is the amount left over. This can be written as a fraction next to the whole number of the quotient. • Write the remainder as the numerator • Write the divisor as the denominator

Compare and Order Fractions When fractions have the same denominator, compare the numerators. The smaller numerator is the smaller fraction. When fractions have the same numerator, compare the denominators. The fraction with the larger denominator is the smaller fraction.
