Probability

Probability tells how likely it is that a desired outcome will occur. It is expressed as a fraction in lowest terms.

Example

Bailey’s fish tank had 5 goldfish, 12 danios, 4 guppies and 3 tetras. Using her net, she will randomly scoop up one fish without looking.

Measures and Fractions

If a smaller measure is only part of a larger one, it can be written as a fraction. 1 Ex: 1 foot = yard (because 3 feet = 1 yard) 3 Smaller Unit → Larger Unit = Divide 1 1÷3= 3

To convert a fraction of a larger measure, multiply the fraction by the number of smaller units.

1 Ex: yard = 1 foot 3 Larger Unit → Smaller Unit = Multiply 1 × 3=1 3

explain why we use the inverse operation when solving equations. Suggested answer: We use inverse operations to undo whatever is being done to a variable. The goal of solving any algebraic equation is to isolate the variable so we can find its value. Inverse operations allow us to "peel away" numbers one by one.
