Circle Graphs: Use sectors to show data

To find the angle measure of any sector:

Multiply the % by 3.6°

* A full circle graph is 100% and 360° so 360 ÷ 100 = 3.6*

Example

AQUARIUM ANIMALS 1) What animal is represented the least? Penguins 20% Eels Whales 2) Find the degree 40% measure for the Whales Sharks sector. 35% Eels 5% 40 × 3.6 = 144°

Perimeter • distance around a 2-dimensional shape • add the length of all sides

Perimeter of a rectangle = length + length + width + width. • P = (2 × l) + (2 × w) Perimeter of a Square = side + side + side + side • P = 4s

Example

Find the perimeter of each. P = 2l + 2w P = 2(8) + 2(3) 3 feet P = 16 + 6 P = 22 feet 8 feet

P = 4s

Introduction to Area

Area: • measure of the space inside a 2D shape • found by counting the squares or using a formulameasured in square units

Area Formulas: Area : length x width or A=lw Area : side x side or A = s

Example

Find the area.

A = 7 sq. units A = lw A=s = (5)(3) =4 = 15 cm = 16 sq. ft

Find the area.
