Why does the formula for converting Celsius to Fahrenheit multiply by 95 and then add 32? What do those numbers represent? Suggested Answer: The 95 adjusts for the different size of degrees (Celsius degrees are bigger than Fahrenheit degrees, there are 180 Fahrenheit degrees between freezing and boiling but only 100 Celsius degrees). The +32 adjusts for the different starting point (water freezes at 32°F, not 0°F).
