THE BRIDGEWRIGHT: "Today we check every stone, all twenty, and I get to watch you do it. No shortcuts, but no fear either. You have set every one of these stones before. I will be right here the whole time."
JUNE PIER: "Twenty checks. I timed the course at eleven minutes." TOBY LATCH: "She is rounding down to scare you. Take your time; the stones are not going anywhere."
THE STILLWATER LEDGERS // MIDSEASON SPECIAL :: THE COIN COUNT
Midseason. The Bridgewright empties the jar onto the bench: four stamped coins and a season of small thefts. Before another stone is set, every skill gets counted.
PREVIOUSLY Four spans closed, four stamped coins in the jar, every theft small, every stamp the same.
THE CASE The midseason count. Twenty checks across everything the Crossing has taught, called by the Bridgewright himself. Ten stones on the bench; by the Quartermaster’s own method each one is counted twice, and that makes the twenty.
Filed by the quartermaster, Pippa George.
